Curb Bits are leverage bits which are generally used when riding with one hand. When the reins are pulled, the curb chain puts pressure on the chin groove. The greater the curve of the shank, the more delayed the signal time is to the horse, which makes curbs a popular choice for novice riders riding trained horses. Curb bits with longer shanks will send a more immediate and severe signal to the horse.
